Body-on-frame Chassis and Frameless Chassis

Body-on-frame Chassis and   Monocoque (Uni-body) Chassis are two typical chassis type used by car manufactures nowadays.
Body-on-frame is an automobile construction method. Mounting a separate body to a rigid frame that supports the drivetrain was the original method of building automobiles, and its use continues to this day on almost all 4x4 automobiles and some of the crossover SUV.

There are other frame styles such as Ladder-frame, Backbone tube, Sub-frame etc etc. Among them, the Uni-body is most popular due to its low production cost. However Uni-body frames are fragile and might be heavily damaged in accident and impractical to repair.  It is hard to find the right balance.
